ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS – 6TH GRADE

Homework – In addition to any special assignments, students are expected to complete the following regular homework assignments:
Journals – Any journal assignments not completed in class should be completed for homework.
Reading Log – Students are required to read at least 30 minutes each night, Monday through Friday, and complete all parts of the reading log for each book read. The log will be checked quarterly and must be totaled and signed by a parent or guardian before it is turned in. Reading_Log1-2
Accelerated Reader (AR) Tests – Students are required to check out at least one AR book each time we go to the library (three times a quarter). After reading the book, each student should complete a book report form and turn it in to me for review. AR reports will be be assessed for correct writing conventions. Once the report is approved, the student will take the test.

Monday – Have completed character chart about last scene in Stave II with Belle and totaled and signed reading log.

Thursday, Dec. 14 – Nonfiction AR report and notes are due.
Friday, Dec. 15 – Library today. FOR MONDAY: Have 2nd quarter reading logs totaled and signed; finish completing character chart started in the library.

Tuesday – Complete the Fact & Opinion worksheet; finish the drawing of the Ghost of C’mas Past (1st and 3rd period only).
Thursday – Vocabulary 7 cards are due and quiz is today.
Week of Nov. 27
Thursday – Historical Fiction AR report (with summaries) due today. Tonight update nonfiction AR booklist.
Friday – Bring library books and nonfiction booklist.
Vocabulary cards for Lesson 7 and Lesson 7 quiz will be Thursday, Dec. 7.

Continue reading AR book and writing chapter summaries – turn in report and summaries on Friday.
Thursday – Vocabulary cards due and quiz on lesson 6.
Add 5 Historical Fiction titles to fiction booklist for Friday, library day. Bring library books.

Monday – complete “Sameness & Equality” chart with evidence from two texts
Wednesday – pull together all novel assignments, including list of chapter titles, for Friday.
Thursday – Vocabulary workbook, lesson 6 due today; Personal Pronoun test today.

Monday – finish completing the character analysis chart for the first three characters – George, Hazel, and Harrison in “Harrison Bergeron” for tomorrow.
