ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS – 6TH GRADE

Homework – In addition to any special assignments, students are expected to complete the following regular homework assignments:
Journals – Any journal assignments not completed in class should be completed for homework.
Reading Log – Students are required to read at least 30 minutes each night, Monday through Friday, and complete all parts of the reading log for each book read. The log will be checked quarterly? and must be signed by a parent or guardian before it is turned in. Reading_Log1-2
Accelerated Reader (AR) Tests – Students are required to check out at least one AR book each time we go to the library (three times a quarter). After reading the book, each student should complete a book report form and turn it in to me for review. AR reports should be written using correct writing conventions. Once the report is approved, the student will take the test.
All makeup AR reports must be submitted by Wednesday, April 26.

1st period – Explain/paraphrase in writing what the Spirit is doing in the first full paragraph on page 44 of A Christmas Carol.
4th period – rewrite corrected summary of “History of Christmas” on the handout given out in class today

Tuesday – Be sure 3-2-1- summary is done for both chapters 10 and 11.
Wednesday – Nonfiction AR report and notes due. Reading log is also due and should be neat, complete, and signed by a parent.
Thursday – Vocabulary cards for Lesson 4 are due. Vocabulary quiz today. Read chapter 12 and complete the 3-2-1 summary page. Finish answering questions started in class today about the word “obsolete”.
Week of October 3
Monday – Answer questions 7-10 on split-page notes for chapters 2-8 after reading chapter 8.
Tuesday – Finish prewriting for constructed response on split-page notes 2-8; compose your response on loose leaf paper with a proper heading for tomorrow. 4th period – Be sure questions 7-10 are thoroughly answered on split-page notes 2-8.
Thursday – Vocabulary workbook, lesson 4 is due.
Friday – Read chapters 10 & 11 for Tuesday; complete a 3-2-1 summary hand out on each chapter (chapter summary should be at least 3 good sentences.)
Week of September 26
Wednesday – AR fiction report form due. Complete questions 4-6 on split-page notes and 3-2-1 summaries for chapters 4 and 5.
Thursday – AR nonfiction booklist and vocabulary cards are due; vocabulary quiz, lesson 3.
Friday – Library – bring books and nonfiction AR book list; for MONDAY – be sure you have read chapters 6 and 7 in The Giver and written down things you found interesting and any questions you have on paper with a heading.

Complete constructed response with your predictions.
