ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS – 6TH and 7th GRADES

Homework – In addition to any special assignments, students are expected to complete the following regular homework assignments:
Journals – Any journal assignments not completed in class should be completed for homework.
Reading Log – Students are required to read at least 30 minutes each night, Monday through Friday, and complete all parts of the reading log for each book read. The log will be checked quarterly and must be totaled and signed by a parent or guardian before it is turned in. Reading_Log1-2
Students will at times be required to also complete classwork for homework. This may not be listed on this space, but students who are in class will know what is required, and students who are absent will be allowed to make up the assignment.
Week of May 20
Monday – 1st period exam; All class library books are due today.
Tuesday – 3rd & 4th period exams; Totaled and signed reading logs are due today.
Wednesday – 5th period exam

Thursday – Vocabulary quiz; review for book test
Friday – Book test; 7th grade – summaries due.

BE SURE ALL LIBRARY BOOKS ARE RETURNED AND FINES PAID BY THIS WEEK.
Tuesday – 6th – Test on Written in Bone and Blood on the River.
Thursday – All classes – vocabulary cards due and quiz on lesson 15. Tonight – 7th: Read chapter 4 and complete summary and reading log. 6th – Read chapter 21 (pages 165-168 only) and 23.
Week of April 15
Monday – 3rd period – Finish annotating the rest of Chp. 9 in Blood on the River; 4th & 5th periods – Read Chp. 12, marking setting and character influences as done in class.
Thursday – 6th – vocabulary 15 exercises due; 7th – vocabulary 14 quiz and cards due

6th grade vocabulary 14 quiz on Thursday.

Tuesday – (6th) Finish/revise journal entry.
Thursday – Completed vocabulary exercises, Lesson 11 are due. Update your nonfiction booklist so there are at least 10 open titles and bring your library books tomorrow.
Week of Jan. 28
Thursday – Vocabulary cards due and quiz on Lesson 10.6th: Book report is due.
Week of Jan. 22
6th – Finish reading Stave III; write a paragraph on your understanding of the last scene in the stave on p. 49.
Thursday – vocabulary exercises 10 are due. Finish reading Stave IV for tomorrow.
Friday – Academic Games members: Finish reading the novel (Staves IV & V) for Monday.
Week of Jan. 14.
Wednesday – (6th only) All project revisions due by today. 1st period – Locate in chapter 2, pages 20-30 and write a description of each dog. 3rd period – Finish Stave II questions started in class. STAVE II QUESTIONS
Thursday – Vocabulary 9 cards and quiz. 6th – tonight read Stave III, p. 31-40 and write down what you don’t understand or have questions about.
Friday – (7th only) Test on chapters 1 and 2 of the novel.
Week of Jan. 7, 2019
Tuesday – (6th grade only) We will work on the “Works Cited” portion of the project and look at some sample projects.
Wednesday – (6th grade only) Historical Fiction Project due today.

Monday – Nonfiction Book Report due. Be sure to follow directions and proofread for complete sentences, spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
Wednesday – 6th – Finish reading The Giver.
Thursday – Vocabulary 7 cards due and quiz.
Friday – Library – need updated fiction booklist with at least 5 Historical Fiction titles in addition to the other fiction titles on your list.
Week of 11/12
6th – Finish TP-CASTT handout from class today including the theme for Wednesday
7th – Test on “The Tell-Tale Heart”.
Thursday – Vocabulary 7 exercises due
Week of 11/5
Wednesday – 6th Grade – be sure you have read through Chapter 16 in The Giver. Book project due. If doing a presentation, be sure you have practiced; if doing a written piece, be sure you have proofread it.
Thursday – Vocabulary 6 cards due and quiz.

Monday – Library – need nonfiction booklist and library books;
6th – Read Chapter 13 in The Giver tonight.
